WW2: a Quick Fortifications Re-Look
Finland--1939: the Mannerheim Line defeated the Red Army
who couldn't go around, over or under it.
France, 1940: the Maginot Line was not long enough, the
Germans went around it.
Normandy, 1944: When the Germans took France, they began
building a "West Wall" from Norway to France but it was not
thorough enough and the Allies went over and around it on D-Day.
What the Super Guns documentary reveals is how Coastal
Defensive Guns dueled across the English Channel throughout the war; a
pre-occupation that FIXED the Germans' attention on Calais the closest point to
England--enabling the Allies to strike where the Nazis were weak. In WAR, more
is going on than just obvious destruction.
Even though the Allies had to build massive artificial
harbors at Normandy and the Ledo road to resupply the free Chinese against the

Another overlooked, WW2 engineering success story was the
steel fence the Germans/Finns laid across the Baltic Sea trapping the entire
Soviet Russian Navy there.
